In fiscal year 2025, the University of Arizona achieved a milestone by producing 324 invention disclosures, surpassing its previous record of 307. This accomplishment underscores the university’s growing emphasis on research commercialization and highlights the pivotal role of its Tech Launch Arizona (TLA) office in transforming innovative ideas into market-ready solutions.
Beyond the disclosures, the university finalized 86 licenses or options and executed 94 patents, generating $12.1 million in revenue and royalties during the year. Among the most notable successes was the acquisition of the UA-founded startup Neuro-ID by the global credit firm Experian, reflecting the university’s ability to cultivate high-impact technologies that attract international attention and investment.

TLA has also increased its focus on student entrepreneurship, fostering the next generation of innovators. Over 80 student teams participated in the “Startup Wildcats” program, which provides guidance, mentorship, and access to resources to bring their ideas from concept to prototype.
More than $20,000 in milestone funding was distributed to support these early-stage projects, helping students advance technologies ranging from AI-driven healthcare solutions to sustainable agricultural innovations.
The university’s efforts extend beyond financial support. TLA provides mentorship, access to patenting and licensing services, and structured programs that enable students and faculty to navigate the commercialization process effectively. By creating a self-sustaining pipeline where academic inventions can evolve into viable enterprises, the university not only strengthens its research profile but also contributes to local economic growth and job creation in Southern Arizona.
This record-breaking year also reflects the university’s strategic focus on deep tech and research commercialization, demonstrating that Tucson is emerging as a hub for innovation rather than solely a center for education and service. By nurturing inventive ideas, supporting entrepreneurial ventures, and connecting innovators with the resources they need to succeed, the University of Arizona is helping transform Southern Arizona into a thriving ecosystem for technological advancement and economic development.
