As we approach the end of the year, it is the perfect time to highlight an opportunity that many Arizona residents can benefit from. The Arizona Charitable Tax Credits allow taxpayers to directly lower their state tax bill while supporting local organizations that make a meaningful impact in their communities.
Unlike deductions, which only reduce your taxable income, this tax credit directly reduces the amount of tax you owe. Every dollar you donate, up to the limits listed below, can be subtracted from your Arizona tax bill. You do not need to itemize deductions to claim these credits, and every Arizona taxpayer is eligible to participate.
1. Qualifying Charitable Organizations (QCO) Credit
Support local nonprofits that help low-income Arizonans with basic needs like food, clothing, and shelter.
Maximum credit for 2025:
$495 — Single, Head of Household, or Married Filing Separate
$987 — Married Filing Joint
2. Qualifying Foster Care Charitable Organizations (QFCO) Credit
This credit supports organizations that serve children and adults in Arizona’s foster care system.
Maximum credit for 2025:
$618 — Single, Head of Household, or Married Filing Separate
$1,234 — Married Filing Joint
3. Private School Tuition Organization Credits
These credits help students afford tuition at private schools through certified tuition organizations. There are two separate credits, both of which can be claimed in the same year:
Original Individual Income Tax Credit (Form 323)
Maximum for 2025:
$769 — Single, Head of Household, or Married Filing Separate
$1,535 — Married Filing Joint
Switcher Individual Income Tax Credit (Form 348)

$766 — Single, Head of Household, or Married Filing Separate
$1,527 — Married Filing Joint
4. Public School Tax Credit (Form 322)
This credit supports extracurricular activities, sports, arts, and other programs at Arizona public schools — you can even choose the specific school.
Maximum for 2025:
$200 — Single, Head of Household, or Married Filing Separate
$400 — Married Filing Joint
5. Military Family Relief Fund Credit
This fund provides financial assistance to families of currently deployed service members and post-9/11 veterans who face hardship.
Maximum for 2025:
$200 — Single, Head of Household, or Married Filing Separate
$400 — Married Filing Joint
How It Works
Arizona allows you to stack these credits, meaning you can donate to multiple categories in the same year and receive separate credits for each one. Donations made by April 15, 2026 can still count toward your 2025 tax return.
When you file your state taxes, you’ll claim each credit on its respective form. Be sure to keep your donation receipts from each organization for your records.
Why It Matters
Arizona’s tax credit system gives residents a unique opportunity to take control of where their tax dollars go, whether it’s helping foster kids, supporting local schools, or assisting military families. By participating, you’re not just lowering your tax bill, you’re strengthening the community we live in.
